Based on the latest study, at least 85% of women have pieces of clothing in their wardrobe that they never wear. These clothes remain dormant inside your wardrobe hoping that one day they would be able to fulfil their original function. Unworn clothes take up a huge portion of your wardrobe. You need to know when to get rid of clothes or else you might end up like Joan Cunnane, the shopaholic lady who was discovered dead under a pile of new and unworn clothes.

When to Get Rid of Clothes

Most women that were asked in the survey claimed that they are keeping at least 3 sizes of clothes in their wardrobe believing that their weight can fluctuate. The smallest size has the tendency to be a ‘dormant clothes’ since most women are hopeful that they will lose weight. Should we mention how often this actually happens?

Some women also use the smaller clothes as their motivation to reduce weight. They believe that discarding them is tantamount to defeat. Some clothes also carry precious memories. These are some of the answers to why do we keep clothes we never wear. However, unless you are blessed with a large wardrobe, there will come a time when we have to clear it out.

Here is a quick guide that will signal that it’s time to get rid of your clothes.

You Always Try It On But You Never Wear It

All of us have that clothes that we always try on, but eventually, we always end up with our favourite clothes. There is a possibility that you will never wear them when you are outside your room. There is just no use of hanging on to these clothes. They take up some valuable spaces in your wardrobe. It is important to know when to get rid of some items and instead use the space for the ones you will actually wear.

It’s Not Trendy

Every now and then we will buy a trendy item, but that trend will not last forever. Remember neon jeans with floral decoration that you want to wear every day? There is a chance that it is lying somewhere in your wardrobe right now and knowing when to throw away garments that are not trendy is important. If you are no longer wearing them, then there’s no use in keeping these clothes. It is probably time to let go.

A good example would be a pair of skinny jeans with beaded embroidery that I  have bought last summer. It was a very trendy piece. In addition, should I mention that I don’t actually wear any jeans more than 3 times a year? If I am honest, I need to say Bye to this pair of jeans. In fact, I will.

But should you not buy the trendy clothes at all?

Of course, you should, if you wish so! I think it’s important to always keep in mind what suits you and what do you enjoy to wear. For example, this fox printed midi dress might seem trendy for some of you because of an unusual print. But for me, it’s a perfect piece that fits my wardrobe and personal style organically.

First of all, the length. Midi length looks perfect on me. It helps me to hide the parts of my body that I don’t want to show. On the other hand, the fit helps me to emphasise my small waist and underline the other better bits. The cute foxy print helps me to show my personality. And, finally, natural silk always has a good place in my wardrobe as I am a huge supporter of the clothes made of natural materials.

So, as you can see, it’s important to find a trendy piece, that actually fits well with your wardrobe, your personality and style. If you can tick all three of these when shopping, go for it and buy the piece! And you will not have to get rid of it in future.

It Comes with Bad Memories

There are clothes that we cannot discard for some sentimental reason. However, if it comes with bad memories, it is time to dispose them along with the bad memories and move on. It is a powerful and effective form of letting go. In addition, it will also force you to purchase new clothes without any memories. It’s like starting with a blank slate.

Finally, you should also know when to get rid of clothes to be confident and contented with your figure. It is just too silly to let a piece of dress to put a pressure of losing weight on you. Getting fit because you desire it is great but forcing yourself to lose pounds because there are 50 smaller dresses in your wardrobe doesn’t make sense.
