Sadly, summer is over. But don’t hurry to pack all of your favourite fashion pieces away before you hear about my latest fashion tricks. Luckily, there is a transitional period from warm and sunny weather to a cold rainy one. Even though it is not warm enough to wear your summer clothes on their own, there is a way to prolong a life of summer appropriate fashion pieces. With just a couple styling tips you will be able to transition your summer pieces into autumn. There is a beauty in a transitional period – warm weather appropriate pieces can be easily styled in the autumnal (what a beautiful word) outfits.
Re-think your Midi Skater Dress
Mid-length chiffon dress is a perfect summer piece that can be worn during the transitional period. I do recommend to choose midi dresses versus mini dresses as I believe that short dresses only appropriate for a night out in autumn. In any other environment, they may look a bit too vulgar in my opinion. Midi dresses with short sleeves or even sleeveless are easily transformed into new season’s wardrobe. They are versatile pieces that can be a great base for any look. When it comes to creating the outfit for the beginning of the autumn, I always choose my dress first and then build the outfit around it. I believe, your favourite dress is a good starting point to put together an outfit you are going to enjoy during the day.
Think about comfort
Chiffon or silk dresses are not only beautiful but are comfortable and easy to wear. They are not too warm. Therefore, if you need to be active at the office or running errands for work during the day, you won’t get too warm. Also, chiffon dresses are great for the underground. I don’t know about you, but I always get warm in the tube. I feel really uncomfortable if my clothes get a bit less fresh after I had been squeezed in the train (worse thing ever). That is why I prefer to wear clothes made of a lightweight fabric for a transitional period. Perfect for when it is not too cold, not too warm! Because the fabric and the length of my midi dress are very soft and elegant, I can easily wear it during autumn. Thanks to its length, you won’t get cold if the weather is a little breezy. Sophisticated and fun dress like this can be worn both to the office and a date night.
Go for a Duster Coat
Basically, a duster coat is everything you need to be the winner during the transitional period. This is your magic wand to creating stylish and comfortable outfits. For the last couple of years, a duster coat is a true fashion hero. And here is why. Duster coats are stylish, trendy, turn every outfit into an effortless and chic look. In addition to this, they are very light to carry and easy to style. The fashionable part if very clear. I want to mention one more thing. The weather during the transitional period changes a lot during the day and normally quick. That is why it is useful to carry a duster coat with you.
You may, of course, want to take a huge scarf with you or just a cardigan. These are very good alternatives. For example, my mum loves scarfs and wraps. I cannot imagine her wearing a duster as her style is a bit different to mine. If you are more into lady-like and conservative style, probably go for a cardigan or a classic feminine jacket. If you are like me – love trends and want to be on top of all things fashion, I recommend investing into 1 or 2 elongated jackets like this. there are many of them available on the market at the moment and for a very affordable price.
Autumnal Colours
Even though my favourite season is summer, autumnal colours are my favourite. An autumnal palette is bold and still bright, but shades are deeper than in summer. In order to transition your wardrobe for autumn, I recommend choosing accessories in bold colours. you may still want to use your favourite summer bag, but make sure it is not neon. I decided to go for this beautiful handbag in a grape/berry shade. The colour is deep enough for autumn, but still bright enough for occasional sunny days. This autumn I recommend pairing your accessories with a lipstick. I have worn an exact same shade of a liquid lipstick for this outfit in order to tight all the outfit’s details together. I have to admit, it was an easy shade to pair. What if you are wearing a green handbag? If you are not into green lips (haha), go for green nail polish. Easy! BTW the lipstick is Pop Beauty Permanent Pout in OMG Violet in case you were wondering.
Bootie Sandals
Who said that you need to hide all the sandals? Here is a trick for sandal lovers like me. I adore heeled sandals and can wear them all year round. But, of course, I understand, they are not always appropriate. Sometimes it gets too cold or the dress code doesn’t allow you to wear too open shoes. During the transitional period, choose bootie sandals. This way you are wearing sandals, not getting too warm and stay super stylish. As well as a duster coat, bootie sandals are one of my favourite latest fashion trends. An extra slick shape of these sandals I am wearing, making my ankle look smaller. Also, thanks to the high but very comfortable heels, I am left looking taller and a bit slimmer

I love your dress! It is so beautiful, it looks amazing on you. Also, the lipstick is really pretty. I have to disagree with you about the short skirt thing though – I think 60s mini skirt, or suede A-line mini skirts with long socks and boots are super cute for autumn. You’re right that a duster coat is the perfect layer for this time of year and I think long coats are so cool xx

Gorgeous dress, not normally a lover of green but this print is so beautiful. Great post – transitional dressing is always a pain and re-using your favourite summer pieces is always nice. Knitwear and some great ankle boots transform every dress x

These bright colours look beautiful on you. We’re just coming out of winter into Spring here in Australia. I’ve been doing a similar thing of midi dresses with duster coats, but in softer Spring colours.
Love your heels too!

I am so in love with the shoes! And that purse color. Last year, I got a little braver and added dark red shoes and a purse to my very neutral wardrobe. But I think violet would be be amazing this year. Enjoyed your post so much.
Hi Sara,
I am so glad that you are getting braver and adding colour to your wardrobe. I always prefer to add a bit (or a lot) of colour in my outfits. It makes me feel better and happier.
