Welcome back to How to style, today’s topic is unusual colours. I’d like to show you how you can style unusual colours using my example. What colours can you match and how to create a harmonic vivid outfit. I want to encourage you to be brave and try adding more colours to your outfits.
How do I style unusual colours?
Many people stick to the same old boring colours – black, brown, white and blue. Don’t get me wrong, I love them too and think that black should appear in every closet. Once or twice (or three times…) I even tried to change my style to minimalistic as it’s so trendy now. But it didn’t work well and I’m sticking to my usual style – bright, chic, elegant. I love colours, that’s why I want to show you how you can take an alternative colour such as mustard and match it with items that will leave people staring as you walk down the street.
When choosing an unusual colour the trick is to pick just one item of the outfit that is going to be in that particular colour. You don’t want to make the outfit look over the top. For this look, I chose mustard as a drop of colour. I actually love the shade. Mustard makes a refreshing change to the normal brown that many people opt for. This mustard jumper is from Cos – one of my favourite shops. Their jumpers are amazing quality and you can always find a great bargain when they have a sale on (*this is what I do all the time).
I feel that navy compliments mustard perfectly. As I wanted to create a stylish yet comfortable look this week, I decided to match the jumper with these amazing tailored culottes and this beautiful sleeveless duster coat both from Zara and both navy. The reason I paired these three items together was that culottes are right on trend this season, tailored silhouette makes them suitable for the office. In order to show this beautiful mustard jumper, I wore a sleeveless coat. You can still see the colour whilst coat is keeping you warm on a cool day.
The bag of choice this week was this stylish Michael Kors Handbag. The deep brown shade really brings out the colour in the jumper whilst not clashing with too many colours. I added this beautiful multicoloured turban head accessory to finish the outfit off and make it pop. If you do not feel like wearing a turban, this outfit would still look great without it. But, I want to encourage you to be creative – you might notice that turban has all the outfit colours in it, which helps to bring the outfit together. You all know I love a pop of colour in my outfits, so I couldn’t resist wearing it! To make this outfit comfortable yet stylish I wore these fab navy blue chunky platform shoes perfect for adding height without wearing heels!
What else could I style this mustard jumper with?
I would style this jumper with a deep blue, burgundy or green. This way it would compliment the jumper and not clash. For a super casual look why not pair the jumper with ankle boots and skinny jeans. Style it for a day at the park or a lunch with friends.
