Hi guys, how often are you feeling stuck with your style? Did it happen to you that you open your wardrobe in the morning and face this nothing to wear situation, even though your wardrobe is packed? Or maybe you are on a budget, but want to stay stylish and follow upcoming fashion trends, but still wearing your grandma’s dress with floral print and feel caught?
Sometimes I feel caught by my personal style and clothes selection. It happens that every other outfit looks the same to me. Even though I have more than enough clothes, shoes, and accessories I want to brighten up my style time after time. But how can I afford constantly buying new things and follow all the trends? I can’t! May I mention that fashion industry nowadays is so quick, that sometimes I feel like the best way to stand out of the crowd is to wear some of my DIY Halloween costumes from the past, (*for example,my Frida Kahlo won a Costume of the night 2 years ago!).
After have been thinking for a while I’ve created a short list of things we can all follow to bring some new life to our wardrobes, feel stylish and happy, make easy outfit choice every morning and glow like never before!
How to avoid feeling stuck with your style?
First comes first. De-clutter your wardrobe. I know, you are going to say: ‘It takes lots of effort, I don’t have time and… You know what? I have nothing to get rid off, my closet is perfectly organised!’. I would be very happy for all the girls on the Planet Earth if that was true. But let’s face the reality. Most of us (*and me too) having a closet issue. We have piles of clothes that we never wear, we forget about things and keep buying same tops etc.
Please, don’t kill me, but sometimes I find a new dress or an awesome skirt in my wardrobe… with a tag… I know! How could I forget about this amazing purchase? Oh I know, it’s not my fault. My messy wardrobe had hidden it from me :/ So please, find 1-2 weekend days, set some time and go through cleaning your wardrobe. You are welcome!
After you’ve de-cluttered your wardrobe, I recommend to getting creative. Follow some style bloggers or influencers on Instagram, check a ton of DIY style and fashion Pinterest boards, make screenshots of the outfits you like and start putting together your style inspiration. This is an important tool to get out of your style comfort zone and find something new for yourself to try. (*helps to stay trendy too).
Make a list
Go through your brand new and sparkling closet and make a list of things you already have. I keep this list on my iPhone. It helps me to avoid buying similar tops or other fashion items. My most problem is purchasing very similar shoes and tops. Do you have any in particular? When we keep buying same things it only makes our life more complicated!
Templates are essential!
This one may be too boring, but I create outfit sets and take pictures of them to save on my phone too. What do I do? I go through my clothes and pick all the pieces needed for the outfit when
I have some time. I lay all the pieces on the floor and take a picture. Today I have 57 outfit sets created in my phone folder. So, there is no way I may be feeling stuck anymore. When I’m in a hurry, I just select one look from my selection and I’m ready to go. No Stress!
Re-consider a use of your fashion pieces. What do I mean? Have you ever thought about wearing summer sandals in winter just with adding wool socks to your look? Have you ever used your silk scarf as a belt? Your brooch as a hair accessory? Think about it, get creative and look at your collection from a different angle.
Swap and repeat
Change clothes with your friends, mum, neighbour etc. I know not everyone would like to do so, but if you don’t mind borrowing some clothes from your friend and giving something in return – do so! This will give you the option to extend the wardrobe without any spend. My advice to you – always making sure you clean, wash or fix an item before returning it to your style affair partner. This is not only polite, but it’s a must if you are planning to borrow something else. A person is more likely to share things with you if they know you will take a good care of them.
Wardrobe saving options
Charity shops and websites that sell pre-owned clothes, sales at the shops can be a good option if you were to spend some money, but not too much. On sales don’t go for hot trendy pieces. Try to find classy things that will fit perfectly in your wardrobe. This way you will avoid ddisappointmentand widen your selection wisely.
I hope you liked my guide on how to avoid feeling stuck with your style and have found it useful.
